NFL's New Multiyear Deal With Twitter Includes Live Digital Show

By Eric Fisher

Twitter today is slated to announce a realigned multiyear partnership with the NFL that will include a new 30-minute live digital show airing five days per week during the season on the social media platform. Produced and hosted by NFL Network personnel, the as-yet-unnamed program will likely run Sunday-Thursday. Twitter and Periscope also will show pregame content during the season, providing access to player warm-ups and sideline interviews. Additionally, the NFL will run game highlights, breaking news and historical content on Twitter, extending a relationship that began in '13.

Today’s scheduled announcement of the new contract will provide details on how the two parties are working together following the league’s decision last month to shift "Thursday Night Football" streaming rights to Amazon. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the NFL and Twitter will collaborate on ad sales around the live and on-demand content.

IOC's First Day In L.A. Includes 19 Presentations, Celebrity Dinner

By Ben Fischer

Both the IOC and LA 2024 bid officials said the prospect of awarding the '24 and '28 Games simultaneously was not discussed on the first day of the IOC's three-day site visit. Neither world politics nor the Trump administration were addressed, other than to confirm the U.S. federal government’s support for Games security. “We will be concentrating on the bid process that has started and these cities have been going through,” said IOC Evaluation Commission Chair Patrick Baumann of Switzerland, also secretary general of FIBA. During an all-day private meeting at the J.W. Marriott at L.A. Live, 19 different people made presentations to the IOC commission.

After hours, IOC members dined at LA 2024 Chair Casey Wasserman’s home in Beverly Hills with an impressive list of VIP guests. Along with Wassermann and L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, the party included Kobe Bryant, Snap Founder Evan Spiegel, Fox CEO James Murdoch, Clippers Owner Steve Ballmer, Disney Chair & CEO Bob Iger, Lakers President Jeanie Buss, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group Chair Jeff Shell, Placido Domingo, Sylvester Stallone, classical musician Gustavo Dudamel and L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson. “My team and I, along with some close friends of our bid, will try to share some L.A. magic with our guests,” Wasserman said before the meal.

FanDuel Signs Deal To Become WNBA's Daily Fantasy Partner

By John Lombardo

The WNBA has signed a sponsorship deal making FanDuel the league's official one-day fantasy partner. The multiyear agreement is FanDuel’s first with a women’s professional sports league and the WNBA’s first one-day fantasy offering. Terms were not disclosed. The deal takes effect with the tip-off of the WNBA season on Saturday. A one-day fantasy game will be free to players on FanDuel.com, WNBA.com and the FanDuel app throughout the regular season. Players will compete against each other to win daily prizes, including courtside tickets and merchandise. FanDuel signed leaguewide deal with the NBA in '14, and the league holds an equity stake in the company.

Fox' Super Bowl Telecast Fuels Company's Q3 Revenue Growth

Fox reported a rise in Q3 revenue, "lifted by higher advertising and affiliate fees in its television segments." The February broadcast of Super Bowl LI "fueled revenue growth" in the period ending March 31. Revenue in Fox’ TV business surged 30% to $1.69B, "fueled by a 39% increase in advertising revenue from events such as the Super Bowl and an additional NFL playoff game in the quarter" (WSJ.com, 5/10). Ad sales were "flat with ratings increases at Fox News and FS1 partially offset by drops at National Geographic" (DEADLINE.com, 5/10).

Las Vegas Stadium Authority Focused On Study Of Raiders' Site

The Las Vegas Stadium Authority Board is scheduled to meet today and "will focus primarily on a report to the board on the high-impact study being conducted by Clark County officials to determine the viability" of the Raiders' stadium site. The team purchased the 62-acre parcel on May 1 for $77.5M. Issues including "transportation, parking and soil suitability" will be "examined in the coming months." Observers should not expect "much forward progress" today on the "latest draft stadium lease agreement between the authority and the franchise" (LAS VEGAS SUN, 5/9).

Univ. Of Dayton Arena Project To Include New Premium Seating

Univ. of Dayton officials today are expected to formally announce $12.5M in renovations to UD Arena, which will feature "new premium seating, an expanded concourse and changes to the building's exterior." An "expanded concourse with new bathrooms will sweep around the arena outside the 200 level, blueprints show." At least a "dozen new club boxes will be built parallel to the sidelines between the 200-300 levels." Those seats "would potentially feature in-seat wait service." These will be the "biggest changes at the 47-year-old UD Arena in more than a decade" (DAYTON DAILY NEWS, 5/10).

Pimlico Race Course Today Begins Meet, Now Shortened To 12 Dates

The Preakness meet at Pimlico Race Course begins today, with the season having been "trimmed to 12 dates this year." Pimlico two years ago raced 37 days, which was "tightened to 28 programs" in '16. The lost dates have been "transferred to suburban Laurel Park." Maryland Jockey Club President & GM Sal Sinatra said that a factor in further reducing dates is that "business at Pimlico drops off significantly following the Preakness." Laurel Park last year "handled more money than Pimlico on a number of days during the Pimlico meet" (DRF.com, 5/8).

NASCAR Schedule Release Coming Later As Dates Are Finalized

By Adam Stern

The '18 NASCAR national-series schedule is not expected to be released this week, according to a source, as the sanctioning body finishes up final changes to next year’s slate. NASCAR’s '17 schedule was released during the first week of May in '16, but sources said that the later release this year stems at least in part from a delay with Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which is still finalizing its date for '18. IMS was asked to move up a few weeks, according to sources, but has yet to agree to the move and is also still mulling whether to move a race to its road course.
