Throwback Thursday: Brave New Wide World

We turn back the clock to 20 years ago this week, when Disney opened its Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando with a Reds-Braves Spring Training game. The "state-of-the-art playground" cost $100M to build and at launch included a 9,500-capacity, double-deck ballpark, the "crown jewel" of the complex. Then-Disney Senior VP/Sports Phil Lengyel noted the calendar for the first year was "much fuller than the 80 events the company had originally projected."
