MICROSOFT AND NBC BENCH SPORTS WEB SITE IDEA

NBC and Microsoft "will not launch a separate sports
Web site," sources within both companies tell Anya Sacharow
of MEDIAWEEK. A Microsoft source said plans for a joint
site "were called off because Microsoft did not agree
editorially with NBC Sports executives' vision for the
site." But an NBC Sports spokesperson said that "no
disagreement between Microsoft and NBC impeded the venture's
go-ahead." The NBC spokesperson: "The conditions don't lend
themselves to us pursuing (a sports site) right now."
MEDIAWEEK's Sacharow notes that the new plan is to "give
sports more prominence" on the existing World Wide Web site
     at MSNBC.com (MEDIAWEEK, 3/24).
