Scottrade Center Renovations To Be On Display During Blues Game

The first phase of renovations to Scottrade Center -- $34M worth -- "will be on display" during tonight's Blue Jackets-Blues preseason game. The upgrades "touched on many aspects in the building, including new restrooms, three new concession stands, new LED lighting, a new sound system" and many "less obvious infrastructure improvements." The "first thing most fans will notice is the new video board." Other projects include "construction of a new floor with capabilities for an Olympic-size ice surface, to new boilers to help with heating, and the new restrooms." All the work has "taken place since the end of June" (STLTODAY.com, 9/20).

Future Of IndyCar's Detroit Grand Prix On Belle Isle Up In Air

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources tonight is holding a meeting to "get the public's input" on the Verizon IndyCar Series Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix as officials consider "whether to renew a five-year agreement that would allow the race to continue" on Belle Isle. The current Grand Prix agreement with the city of Detroit was "honored by the DNR when the department assumed management of the island" in February '14. The agreement "will expire this year" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 9/20).

White Sox Partner With Drug Treatment Center On New Campaign

By Eric Fisher

The White Sox have partnered with Illinois-based drug and alcohol treatment center Footprints To Recovery to create a new addiction recovery awareness campaign. The "Batting For Better Days" effort will include a pregame recognition Sunday at Guaranteed Rate Field of caregivers and medical professionals in the addiction treatment community and a donation to Chicago White Sox Charities. A portion of ticket sales to the game will also be donated to Footprints To Recovery’s scholarship fund.

The deal represents the first sports partnership for Footprints To Recovery, and the campaign is under consideration for an '18 rollout as well. “Addiction has been so stigmatized, so we’re trying to connect with big brands like the White Sox that our potential clientele may align with,” said Footprints To Recovery CMO Eliott Wolbrom, whose company has treatment facilities around the country.

McDonald's All American Games Headed To Atlanta After Chicago Stint

Philips Arena will host the '18 McDonald's All American Games on March 28. Atlanta "previously hosted" the boys' side of the high school basketball showcase in '83 and '92. The move "follows a run of the All American Games in Chicago," which hosted for seven consecutive years beginning in '11. During that time, "more than 100,000 fans attended" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/20). This comes after a "brawl occurred after the game" at United Center in late March, with more than a dozen people "seen fighting in a video" (CHICAGO.SUNTIMES.com, 9/20).
