Tiger Woods-Hosted Tournament Moving To Orlando's Isleworth

The Tiger Woods Foundation on Friday announced that the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge is moving to Orlando's Isleworth Country Club in '14 and will be held Dec. 4-7. Isleworth is the "former home of Woods." Next month will mark the "final edition of the limited-field event at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif." The tournament "has struggled to maintain title sponsorship in recent years," and Woods reportedly helped personally to cover the operating costs in '12 (GOLFCHANNEL.com, 11/22).

Starting next year, the event will benefit the Tiger Woods Foundation and the Tavistock Group. The "18-man field remains popular with the players" (AP, 11/22).

Foot Locker's Profit Down Despite Increase In Same-Store Sales

Foot Locker on Friday reported that Q3 profit "slipped 1.9%, as the athletic-apparel retailer's higher expenses masked growth in same-store sales." Same-store sales grew 4.1% from the year-ago period, "keeping up a growth trend that has lasted for several years and helping results beat expectations" (WSJ.com, 11/22). Net income was $104M, down from $106M in Q3 '12. Overall sales grew 6.4% to $1.62B. The company opened 28 new stores and closed 13 stores in the period (Foot Locker).

At presstime, shares of Foot Locker were trading at $38.45 per share, up 4.6% from close of business yesterday (THE DAILY).

Grey Cup Boosting CFL Roughriders Merchandise Sales Further

The CFL Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday host the 101st Grey Cup against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and fans headed to Regina for the game "can't wait to get their hands on the merchandise." The Roughriders have had more than C$7M in merch sales "in each of the last four years." Team VP/Sales Steve Mazurak said that it is "too early to know if sales this year will pass" the C$10M mark, and that "might depend on the outcome Sunday" (CP, 11/21).

This comes as the Roughriders continue to cement their status as the league's new flagship franchise.

The Vikings and the Wilf family have committed an additional private contribution of up to $41.4M for the team's planned stadium. The announcement came as part of Friday's agreement by the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority, the Vikings and Mortenson Construction on a construction management plan that includes a guaranteed maximum price of $763M for construction costs of the venue. The $41.4M commitment includes the previous $13.1M line of credit announced on Oct. 3 (Vikings).
