FIFA's Ethics Committee Cannot Remove World Cup From Qatar

A source confirmed that FIFA's independent ethics committee "has no power" to remove the '22 World Cup from Qatar "whatever the outcome of its investigations." Investigator Michael Garcia is looking into the bidding for the '18 and '22 tournaments, but "even if wrongdoing is uncovered," the ethics committee "can only sanction individuals." However, FIFA's Exec Committee "can make such a decision" (TELEGRAPH.co.uk, 11/14).

ESPN, Comcast Execs Say TV Everywhere Has Much Room To Grow

By Eric Fisher

A decade into a video-on-demand landscape that now includes TV Everywhere options from more than 100 major programmers, execs for Comcast and ESPN at the '13 Covington & Burling Sports Media & Technology conference said the concept of TV Everywhere remains in its infancy. "We're really just beginning to scratch the surface," said Disney & ESPN Media Network Senior VP/Digital Video Distribution Matt Murphy. "It's going to continue to grow. We just need to continue to reduce the friction in the authentication process."

Comcast Senior VP & GM of Video Services Matt Strauss said, "Time shifting has now become fully integrated into everything we do and how we watch TV. But the next iteration of TV Everywhere is going to be about live content, and what we're now working on is how we incorporate additional experiences around this." Strauss also said the London Games remain the most popular TV Everywhere content to date for Comcast: "It was really the first time many consumers watched a live event on a mobile device."
