NBCSN Cancels Michelle Beadle's "The Crossover" Studio Show

NBCSN has cancelled its “low-rated” studio show “The Crossover,” hosted by Michelle Beadle, with the net looking for an “expansion of NFL programming and NHL season starting" (TWITTER.com, 9/25). The show's cancellation comes as “something of a surprise, given that it first aired in late January, right before the Super Bowl, and then got a facelift in May when NBC yanked her co-host, Dave Briggs off the show” (THEBIGLEAD.com, 9/25). The show recently changed timeslots and format and most recently was "preempted by America's Cup sailing on a routine basis” (AWFULANNOUNCING.com, 8/25).

Beadle tweeted: "Crossover is donzo. Thanks 2 the crew who tried their damnedest. I'll let ya know what's next. Access Hollywood on NBC-Blake Shelton 2nite" (TWITTER.com, 9/25). NBCSN implied the end of the show in a release today was due to adjustments to its programming. Beadle’s show most recently ran in the 5:00pmET time slot. NBCSN’s new fall schedule includes NFL shows in that slot each day of the week. Beadle also recently discussed challenges in promoting her show (THE DAILY).

Quicken Loans To Follow Newman's Sprint Cup Car To RCR In '14

Quicken Loans will "serve as a primary sponsor for 12 races" for Ryan Newman's No. 31 Chevrolet for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series next year, moving "with Newman from Stewart-Haas Racing to Richard Childress Racing." Caterpillar, which sponsored Jeff Burton for 24 races this year, will "return for the same number" in '14. The 12 races from Quicken Loans gives the race team "almost a fully funded season," with 36 of 38 events covered (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 9/25).

Meanwhile, "a new web-based series" will feature NASCAR and IndyCar team owner Chip Ganassi. The first episode of "Ganassi Unplugged" will see him "discussing the changing face of auto racing both on the track and in the grandstands." The first of the short video clips "was scheduled to debut" this afternoon on GanassiTV, with a new episode airing weekly through the official opening of the 2014 racing season at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January" (AP, 9/25).

Royal Purple Inks Three-Year Title Sponsorship Of Las Vegas Bowl

The Las Vegas Bowl "has a new sponsor and a new name for at least the next three years," as Texas-based Royal Purple lubricant company has signed on for the Dec. 21 bowl game. The Mountain West-Pac 12 game will be called the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl. Royal Purple "paid more than $1 million per year for the three-year deal." The ESPN-owned bowl "has locked in the team selection rights for six years, giving Royal Purple the right to pit the top team of the Mountain West Conference against the Pac 12’s 5th-ranked team" (REVIEWJOURNAL.com, 9/25). Maaco announced in December that it would not renew its sponsorship of the bowl (THE DAILY).

Judge Orders NFL, Super Bowl Ticketholders Into Settlement Talks

By Daniel Kaplan

A Texas federal court instructed the NFL and lawyers for ticketholders from Super Bowl XLV suing the league to enter into settlement negotiations. Judge Barbara Lynn has already denied class certification to the case, stemming from the temporary seating fiasco at AT&T Stadium. That has left the case with eight plaintiffs, though it continues to wind its way towards a trial date next year.

Lynn yesterday wrote in a filing with the court, “Not later than October 2, 2013, the parties and their respective lead counsel must meet in person or by telephone conf. to discuss settlement of this case. All parties must make a good faith effort to settle this case. At the conclusion of this conference, counsel must, within three business days, notify the Court in writing of the participants' names and capacities, and the results of the settlement conference.”
