Mayweather-Alvarez Bout Results In Record Gate For Nevada

Nevada regulators today said that Saturday's Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Canelo Alvarez fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas "drew the biggest gate ever" in the state. The Nevada Athletic Commission said that 16,146 tickets sold for just over $20M total, for an average of almost $1,240 per ticket. NAC Exec Dir Keith Kizer said that the fight eclipsed the $18.4M earned from 17,000 tickets for the Mayweather-Oscar De La Hoya bout in '07 at the same venue (AP, 9/19).

Jets' Business Development Exec Riccio Steps Down After 17 Years

By Terry Lefton

NFL Jets Senior VP/Business Development Marc Riccio is leaving the team after 17 years. Riccio has resigned, but will remain with the club for another three to four weeks. A search for his replacement is being conducted by Korn/Ferry, and will include internal candidates, like VP/Business Development & Ventures Jeff Fernandez, a Jets marketer for the past 10 years. Riccio said of his next step: "I will probably do some project-work consulting, but that’s not my long-term goal."

Riccio’s resignation is the latest in what has been a turbulent week for NFL marketing and sales execs, with the departures of NFL Senior VP/Sponsorship & Media Sales John Brody and Buccaneers CMO Jason Dial.

The deal comes ahead of Saturday's headlining title fight against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 in Toronto (MMAWEEKLY.com, 9/19).

Inter Milan Owner: No Deal Yet On Majority Stake To Thohir

Serie A club Inter Milan Owner Massimo Moratti today said that "no binding agreement had yet been reached to sell a stake" in the club to MLS DC United and 76ers investor Erick Thohir, though Moratti "saw no major obstacles to a sale." He added that "another month of talks would be needed." Moratti: "There are no major problems to reach an eventual agreement" (REUTERS, 9/19).

Browns Removing Images Of Trent Richardson In Wake Of Trade

The Browns are in the process of making "all traces of running back Trent Richardson vanish" after trading him to the Colts yesterday. Browns Communications Dir Zak Gilbert said, "We began the process last night and will take a good 24 hours to take inventory and make some decisions." It should be "relatively easy for the team to take Richardson's photo off the front of its official app" and some web pages, but a "more costly process would be to republish the team's pocket schedules." The team also will have to "make a sweep of the stadium" (ESPN.com, 9/19).
