NCAA Exec Committee "Unanimously" Affirms Support Of Emmert

The NCAA yesterday announced its Exec Committee has "unanimously affirmed" its support of President Mark Emmert amid the fallout from the recently concluded, two-year investigation into alleged improprieties at the Univ. of Miami. Both the decision to "make such a statement -- and to do so without warning over a weekend -- are highly unusual for the NCAA, which has been under fire for some time over the way many high-profile cases have been handled" (AP, 2/23). The reaffirmed support "appears to give Emmert time to regroup and put aside worries that his job is on the line, even as the NCAA begins cleaning up a huge controversy over its embarrassing probe" into the UM athletic program (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 2/24).
