UFC 157 Draws 15,525 Behind "Monumental" Rousey-Carmouche Bout

UFC fighter Ronda Rousey’s win against Liz Carmouche at UFC 157 in Anaheim in a women's bantamweight title fight last night “marked a monumental moment in sports history, a time when the women stood above the men in every way.” The fighters “saved” the card “after a stinker of a co-main event.” The Honda Center saw 15,525 fans in attendance for a paid $1.4M gate. This was a “moment comparable to the 1973 Battle of the Sexes tennis match" between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. Rousey-Carmouche was “very much the real deal.” UFC President Dana White said after the fight, “Ronda is a big star, man, and people want to see her” (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 2/24).
