World Surf League Adds Nike, NBCU, NFL Vets To Key Roles

The World Surf League has added three women to senior positions underneath CEO Sophie Goldschmidt. Former NBCUniversal Senior VP/Portfolio Sales & Client Partnerships Cherie Cohen will become CRO; former Nike VP/Brand Marketing for Global Running Pri Shumate will become CMO; and former NFL U.K. Head of Marketing Sarah Swanson will become Senior VP/Strategic Insights & Consumer Growth.

Cohen and Shumate will report directly to Goldschmidt. Swanson, who will lead talent marketing and the data analytics team, will report to Shumate. Shumate is replacing former CMO Will Chignell, who left earlier this year after about one year, and Cohen is replacing Beth Greve, who served as CCO from April '17 to December '18. Swanson’s Senior VP role is new in the league, which recently announced plans to regionalize its far-flung operations to require less executive travel.
