USOC Packaging Eight NGB Events Under "Champions Series" Tagline

The USOC has packaged together eight NGB events this year under the title “Team USA Champions Series,” part of the USOC’s and NBC’s ongoing efforts to expand the Olympic marketing season beyond the biennial Games themselves. The '19 edition of the series will begin with TV coverage of the Geico U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Jan. 24 and continue through six more major events before culminating with a women’s ice hockey national team game on Dec. 14. Parts or all of the events will air on NBCSN or NBC. USOC sponsor Xfinity, which acquired the presenting rights to the series in '17, will get in-venue signage and media. Other sports in the series are beach volleyball, diving, track and field, swimming, gymnastics and luge. The events are owned by the NGBs, which sold the rights to the USOC to create the package. The USOC first piloted the rolled-up NGB event concept in the '16-17 winter sports season, believing that the consolidated “Team USA” brand can generate more value than the individual sports alone can.
