NYRR President Of Events Peter Ciaccia Retiring After '18 Marathon

N.Y. Road Runners President of Events and N.Y. Marathon Race Dir PETER CIACCIA will retire after this year’s event on Nov. 4. NYRR Senior VP/Event Development & Production and Marathon Technical Dir JIM HEIM will replace him as Race Dir, reporting to President & CEO MICHAEL CAPIRASO. The title of “president of events” will not be retained. Ciaccia was given that title in '15 as part of a dual leadership structure with Capiraso, created after former CEO MARY WITTENBERG left. Capiraso will now hold a more traditional CEO role, overseeing all operations. In his 18 years at NYRR, Ciaccia managed the logistics of a rapidly growing portfolio of races and 40% growth in total race finishers. Capiraso said of Ciaccia, “He is responsible for so many of our innovations and advancements, and he has a deep connection with the running community that will be felt for a long time to come.” Heim was profiled earlier this month in THE DAILY.
