NEWS & NOTES FROM "BRANDWEEK": DOUBLETREE CLOSE TO NFL DEAL

     Doubletree Hotels is close to signing a two-year deal with
the NFL to make them the league's official hotelier, according to
BRANDWEEK.  The Hyatt Regency in Phoenix will be the headquarters
for Super Bowl XXX, but Doubletree "is looking for ties and team
business around the league."  Doubletree has 110 hotels
nationwide and "plans the usual NFL-themed promos and ads using
NFL players.".....At the PGA International show in Las Vegas this
week, Top-Flite Golf will announce their new print and TV ad
campaign.  With the tagline "The Most Played Name in Golf," the
campaign includes a $1M challenge to other manufacturers "to
prove they sell more balls than Top-Flite."....Staples Office
Supply is increasing their affiliation with the NFL this fall,
setting up promos with the Cardinals, Bengals, Chargers and
Redskins, in addition to their "inaugural link with its home-town
franchise" the Patriots.  Staples is looking to keep pace with
Office Depot and OfficeMax, which "also participate locally" in
NFL deals.  BRANDWEEK's Hillary Rosner examines the deals with
each team, including Staples' 3-year stadium signage deal with
the Cardinals giveing them a presence at Super Bowl XXX
(BRANDWEEK, 9/11).
