Lions Become Latest Team To Slash Concession Prices

The Lions today unveiled "new prices for food and drink" at Ford Field. Throughout the stadium, "beer will be $5, a hot dog-soda-chips combo is $10 and a hot dog-beer-chips combo is now $12." At select locations in the stadium and for the "first 60 minutes after the doors open, you can get a pop for $2, a hot dog for $2, a beer or a cocktail for $3, or a specialty drink for $5." In recent years, both the Falcons and Ravens "have gone with reduced prices for concessions." The Lions "spent time this spring examining lower concession prices" with concessionaire Levy Restaurants (FREEP.com, 8/14).

Alabama Tops College Football Ticket Demand On StubHub

Alabama has the "most in-demand tickets on the resale market" for college football for the "first time in five years," according to data from StubHub. Alabama "unseated Michigan, No. 1 each of the last four seasons for the top spot." The Crimson Tide was "third last season and fourth" in '16. StubHub said that demand is up 45% for Alabama tickets "compared to last season." Still, "none of the home games except for the Iron Bowl are sold out" (AL.com, 8/14).

TCU is the "top-trending" team on StubHub, with ticket demand up 298% "based on StubHub sales, making the largest jump in demand among StubHub's Top 10 selling teams." Much of the jump is "driven by its early-season showdown against Ohio State at AT&T Stadium" on Sept. 15. That is the ticket marketplace's "third-best selling game overall going into the season" (STAR-TELEGRAM.com, 8/14).

Fernando Alonso Exits F1, Fueling McLaren IndyCar Rumors

By Adam Stern

Two-time F1 champ Fernando Alonso is stepping away from that racing circuit at the end of this season, his first official step toward possibly becoming part of the highly rumored McLaren IndyCar team that could enter the series next year. Alonso’s future has been a major storyline all season, as McLaren has made clear that it is eyeing a full-time entrance into IndyCar. There was no mention of IndyCar in a statement released today, but McLaren CEO Zak Brown has repeatedly said that the team is still working on a possible entry as soon as ’19. Alonso raced in the ’17 Indianapolis 500 as a one-off.

IndyCar CEO Mark Miles in a text message wrote, “Today's announcement certainly has fueled excitement among IndyCar fans who hope that Alonso will compete throughout the Championship in 2019. McLaren is working to put all the necessary arrangements in place and we are supporting their efforts. I don't expect this to be resolved until closer to the end of this year."
