WNBA Rules Aces Must Forfeit Canceled Game Against Mystics

The WNBA has ruled that the Las Vegas Aces "will forfeit" their game against the Washington Mystics that was "canceled Friday night when the Aces players decided not to play because of concerns about their health and safety after 26 hours of travel." The league announced its decision today in a "one-sentence email." There was "little precedent for the decision because the WNBA has never before canceled a game." On the scheduled game day, the Aces reached their hotel "about four hours before the scheduled tip" (AP, 8/7).

NBA Tabs Magic To Play Two Games In Mexico City In '18

The NBA today announced that its '18 Mexico City Games will feature Bulls-Magic on Dec. 13 and Jazz-Magic on Dec. 15 at Arena Ciudad de Mexico. This will mark the third consecutive season the NBA will play two regular-season games in Mexico's capital. The contests will air on ESPN and NBA League Pass Int'l. Also announced today is a multiyear partnership between the NBA and event company Zignia Live to collaborate on future games in Mexico (NBA).

Roanoke Times Sues Over Rights To Reporter's Twitter Account

The Roanoke Times today filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court against a "former reporter over the rights to a Twitter account," and the outcome will determine "whether Virginia Tech football reporter Andy Bitter owns the Twitter handle @AndyBitterVT and its associated followers." Bitter left the paper earlier this year for a "similar position at The Athletic." The suit alleges that Bitter was "requested to turn over control of his Twitter account for the next Roanoke Times Virginia Tech reporter to use, but he did not do so." It cites the precedent that Bitter "had inherited the handle from the previous reporter, Kyle Tucker, and that Bitter signed acknowledgement of the company handbook which stated that the account was company property" (RICHMOND.com, 8/7).

For those so inclined, SI.com goes with, "The Cleveland Browns-Hard Knocks Drinking Game" (SI.com, 8/7).
