NFL Fines Richardson $2.75M After Misconduct Investigation

The NFL fined outgoing Panthers Owner Jerry Richardson $2.75M "after a months-long investigation found that allegations of sexual and racial misconduct by Richardson were substantiated." The NFL said that independent investigator Mary Jo White's review of Richardson "found nothing to discredit the claims of former Panthers employees, while also uncovering 'similar matters that have not been the subject of public discussion.'" White's investigation also found "no other Panthers employee engaged in misconduct" and the franchise "never reported the claims or the financial settlements Richardson made to former employees to the league." Richardson's sale of the team to David Tepper for $2.275B was approved by NFL owners last month (CHARLOTTEOBSERVER.com, 6/28).

Univ. Of Arkansas' New Merchandise Retailer Ready For CWS Title

By Michael Smith

Arkansas’ new merchandise retailer, Dyehard Fan Supply, will be standing by tonight to sell College World Series championship hats, T-shirts and towels at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks play Oregon State in the deciding game 3 tonight. Baum, the Hogs’ home baseball stadium, will host a watch party for the game. Dyehard, which in the spring won the bid to be Arkansas’ gameday and online retailer, officially is scheduled to assume its rights this Sunday, July 1. But with the Razorbacks in the championship series of the CWS this week and previous retailer Fanatics winding down, Arkansas found itself in need of a retailer if there is a hot market from a CWS championship.

The Razorbacks’ online team shop will flip from Fanatics to Dyehard on Sunday. Dyehard won the Arkansas business with a five-year deal worth $700,000 a year, up from the $250,000 the school was getting annually from Fanatics.

The team estimates the park will welcome around 250 dogs throughout the upcoming season. Bravo Media Senior VP Maria Laino DeLuca said the food concept at the MLS stadium is a good way for fans to connect with the show. Mastercard Sponsoring Late-Night Metro For MLB All-Star Events

By Eric Fisher

MLB sponsor Mastercard has agreed to sponsor late-night Metro rail service in DC during next month’s MLB All-Star Game events, a move that seeks to alleviate concerns about the transit system’s operating hours during the event. The deal will involve keeping the Metro system open as late as 12:48am ET, or 30 minutes after the completion of the July 16 Home Run Derby and July 17 All-Star Game, whichever is later. The move follows similar corporate-sponsored Metro extensions during the Capitals’ recent Stanley Cup run and other major sports events in DC.

The cost to extend Metro beyond its regular 11:30pm weeknight closing time typically is $100,000 per hour, with that deposit often refunded if the rail service is profitable during the extended service window. MLB and Metro are also producing for the upcoming event 200,000 SmarTrip cards for Metro service featuring All-Star Week designs.
