Maryland Names Damon Evans AD, Removes "Acting" Tag

The Univ. of Maryland today named Damon Evans its next AD. Evans has been UM's acting AD "since Kevin Anderson went on a sabbatical last October." Anderson "officially stepped down from the position in mid-April, which led to a two-month search for his successor." UM "decided to stick with Evans, who had been second-in-command to Anderson" since '14. Sources said that Evans has had the "full support" of UM President Wallace Loh since Anderson resigned (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 6/25).

Meanwhile, sources confirmed that former Arkansas AD Jeff Long is "being considered for the vacancy at USF." Long also "has been mentioned as a serious candidate for the vacancy at Kansas" (TAMPABAY.com, 6/25).

Fox' Three-Man NASCAR Booth Returning For '19 Season

By Adam Stern

Fox Sports’ three-man NASCAR booth -- play-by-play announcer Mike Joy and analysts Darrell Waltrip and Jeff Gordon -- are all expected to return for the ‘19 season, a source close to Fox informed THE DAILY. Gordon's deal was expiring after '18, and there have been calls for Fox to shake up the booth, but Gordon is now close to renewing, while Waltrip and Joy -- who have both been with Fox since it started airing NASCAR in ’01 -- are also expected to be back, the source said.

An official announcement could come once Fox finalizes its deal with Gordon. Fox wrapped up its ’18 season coverage this past weekend as far as Monster Energy Series and Xfinity Series action is concerned, though it will continue to air Camping World Truck Series action and shoulder programming for the remainder of the year.

Golf Channel's MacKenzie Lauds KPMG As LPGA Sponsor

Golf Channel’s Paige Mackenzie said of KPMG, which title sponsors this week's Women's PGA Championship, “When you look at creating and growing the women's game, it's all about creating role models and giving women a platform to succeed. KPMG, more than any other sponsor of the LPGA Tour, has done that and they’ve done that in a huge way. It’s not only creating great golf role models and giving the women of the LPGA Tour a place to play, but it's also creating role models off of the golf course. You have the Women's Leadership Conference being hosted every single year that creates more business leaders for women. So, KPMG's investment has been more of walking the walk -- they're not a talk-the-talk kind of company” (“Morning Drive,” Golf Channel, 6/25).
