Redskins Change Course, Announce End To Season-Ticket Waitlist

The Redskins today announced an "overhaul in season-ticket practices," as the team is ending its "famed season-ticket waitlist, which at one point spanned decades." Redskins President of Business Operations & COO Brian Lafemina said that the "way business is done in 2018 isn't conducive to the wait-list model, with fans able to access tickets on the secondary market in ways they couldn't in past decades" (RICHMOND.com, 6/13). In the past, the Redskins' model "drew criticism from others as more of a marketing gimmick than an actual wait list." Lafemina said that fans on the waiting list will now "receive an offer to purchase season tickets" (WASHINGTONTIMES.com, 6/13).

Tickets start at $99 for the season-opening Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, which has sold out the last three years after the track completed its $400M renovation in ’16.

NBC Sports Rolling Out New Pitbox For Rest Of NASCAR Season

By Adam Stern

NBC Sports today showed off a new custom pitbox that will be at every race for its second half of the NASCAR season. The 14-foot-by-12.5-foot pitbox, which is a couple feet longer and higher than a typical pitbox, will be used for everything from pre/post race coverage to possibly having analysts call races from there. The pitbox cost roughly the same to buy as NBC’s prior pre-post race set did and features a touch screen at the base plus several screens, a desk and nine camera positions, along with prominent “NASCAR on NBC” branding.

NBC Sports VP/NASCAR Production Jeff Behnke said that the pitbox was an idea NBC Sports Exec Producer Sam Flood first brought to life when NBC aired NASCAR back in ’01. NBC, which starts its coverage of the Cup Series July 1 at Chicagoland, borrowed a pitbox from Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series team JTG Daugherty Racing last year to test out having analyst Steve Letarte call two races from pit road during Xfinity Series races.

Roker said “we wanted to give” Brien Hollowood, a “diehard O’s fan, the time of his life,” giving him the opportunity to assist in announcing Tuesday night's Red Sox-Orioles game. While Hollowood watched batting practice from the field, Orioles players, coaches and broadcaster Jim Palmer came over to talk with him. Palmer said when he was told Hollowood would announce the starting line-ups, his reaction was, “Don’t mess it up.” Hollowood said the whole experience was the “thrill of a lifetime.” Roker: “The lovely folks at the Orioles helped us pull off a great surprise” (“Today,” NBC, 6/13).
