Sources: Around 60 NFL league employees take voluntary buyouts

Around 60 NFL league employees have taken a voluntary buyout offered to around 200 workers in early January, according to industry sources.

Particularly concentrated were early retirements from within NFL Films, in Mount Laurel, N.J. (one source said most of the buyouts were from Films) and there was also a heavy concentration from within the league’s finance group, that source said.

Employees had to confirm by the end of February if they were taking the buyout. Those opting in were offered three weeks salary for every year served.

At the time, the NFL issued a statement saying: “We have defined the League’s strategic priorities and identified areas for significant growth and investment. Those areas -- such as international expansion, the growth of flag football, and the continued development of media and digital platforms -- will help shape the future of the game. And the internal operations -- how we operate, where we invest our capital, and the workforce -- must evolve to align with these strategic priorities to best position the League for continued success.”

The NFL declined to comment for this story.
