NBA Signs Lease For Larger Flagship Store Location In N.Y.

The NBA has signed a lease for 25,000 square feet of retail space on the corner of 45th and Fifth Ave. in Manhattan that will become the league’s flagship store within a year. The new NBA Store will open in time for the '15 holiday shopping season and will be built in space at 545 Fifth Ave. that held a Michael C. Fina store for the past 15 years, but is now unoccupied. The new NBA emporium will have three levels and will be more than four times as large as the NBA Store that the league opened four years ago, three blocks north on Fifth Ave. That retail location near the northwest corner at 48th, which league officials have been calling “temporary” since it opened in October '11, will be shuttered in August '15 when its lease expires.

Source: NFL Arbitrator To Hear Peterson Grievance Early Next Week

A source said that arbitrator Shyam Das "early next week" will hear Vikings RB Adrian Peterson's grievance against the NFL. The hearing "likely will take place Monday but could be pushed to Tuesday at a location to be determined." NFL and NFLPA spokespersons said that there has been "no confirmation on a date." Das has been an arbitrator for the NFL since '04 and ruled against Saints players in a '12 grievance over the bounty scandal (USATODAY.com, 11/11).

Bowl At Levi's Stadium Lands Foster Farms As Title Sponsor

Sources said that Foster Farms Bowl is the "new name for the bowl that will be played in Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara." The upcoming Dec. 30 contest will mark the "first year the game will be played" in the 49ers' new venue. The bowl was previously known as the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl from '10-12 and the Fight Hunger Bowl in '13. It began in '02 as the Diamond Walnut S.F. Bowl (ESPN.com, 11/12).

Sweden's Martin Jacobson Wins WSOP, Besting Other Foreign Finalists

Martin Jacobson, a 27-year-old Swede, won the World Series Of Poker Main Event last night and is taking home $10M after besting Felix Stephensen of Norway. Jacobson was the "only player of the final nine" previously to have earned more than $1M at WSOP tournaments. Stephenson took home a $5.1M prize for second place. It was the first time in WSOP history that "the final three players in the no-limit Texas Hold 'em main event didn't include a single American." All three players live in London (AP, 11/12).

New Bowl Series To Feature High School State Champions

Organizers today will announce plans for the inaugural Burger King State Champions Bowl Series, three contests featuring six high school football state champions. The games, "all televised by ESPNU," will be played Dec. 27 at Florida Atlantic Univ. The competing teams – "four state champions from Florida and state champions from Washington and Utah" – will be announced Dec. 16. Paragon Marketing "put together the series." Rankings including USA Today Sports' Super 25 "will be used to help select the teams" (USA TODAY, 11/12).

Canadians Kerr, Mooney Set To Control Two Single-A Franchises

The Single-A California League Lancaster JetHawks today will announce that the club "will transition its ownership" to Jake Kerr and Jeff Mooney, "a pair of Canadians who have thrived" as owners of the Single-A Northwest League Vancouver Canadians. Kerr and Mooney will place Andy Dunn, "their partner and president," in charge of both operations. The owners said that "there is no conflict of interest" with the Canadians being a Blue Jays affiliate and the JetHawks being an Astros farm team (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 11/12).

The NBA D-League Austin Spurs have reached an agreement with Texas Descon to place the commercial construction company's logo on the front of the team's jersey (Austin Spurs).

ESPN named former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen a studio and on-site analyst for coverage of UFC PPV events in a multi-fight agreement (ESPN).

The Miller Park stadium district has approved a $16.1M operations budget for '15, an increase of $2.8M from this year. The increase is “chiefly due to higher debt-service payments on the financing and construction of Miller Park” (JSONLINE.com, 11/11).

Schutt Sports today announced the acquisition of additional assets of Adams USA, including the Trace, Bolco, Neumann and Bucks brands. Schutt first acquired a portion of Adams in '11 (Schutt Sports).

A new documentary about Rockets C Dwight Howard was released at 12:01am ET this morning via EPIX.com. The 72-minute film is titled, "Dwight Howard: In The Moment" (ESPN.com, 11/12).

Last night’s 1:00am ET edition of FS1’s “Fox Sports Live” led with Lakers-Grizzlies, followed by Bryant's new record and Spurs-Warriors. FS1 reported on the NHL 16 minutes into their broadcast with Rangers-Penguins highlights.

ESPN’s Keith Olbermann called out his “world’s worst” persons in sports: Ryan Rodenberg and Paul Gift for their “scholarly study of NBA refs' foul calls” that “determined shorter refs call more fouls.” Olbermann also criticized an “unidentified Instagram user who made the life of the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft just a little bit worse” after posting a picture of Greg Oden and not knowing who he was, and the women’s winner of the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon being disqualified as officials “are implying she did a Rosie Ruiz.”

Laugh Tracks....Manning The Outfield

Actress Drew Barrymore and film directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly appeared on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” last night and discussed their ’05 film, “Fever Pitch,” in which host Jimmy Fallon and Barrymore co-starred. Fallon said of filming the final scene for the movie where the Red Sox finally win the World Series, “We actually used the cameras from Fox. We used the cameras from the actual World Series to shoot the ending of the film because we didn't have a crew there with us. … We ran out in the field and the people just let us. It was like, ‘Wait, what?’ ... Peter Farrelly said, “My son was five at the time and I wanted him to be there. ... I said, ‘Go on the field, but don't go near the pitcher's mound. Stay away.’ I didn't want him to get mobbed" so he and a friend ran out into the outfield. Farrelly: "At some point, everybody's on the mound cheering and I looked out in centerfield, they were peeing against the wall. Dead serious” ("The Tonight Show,” NBC, 11/11).

Fallon: “LeBron James apologized to fans for not dunking enough this season. LeBron said he's trying as hard as he can, but at the end of the day, he's just one team.” Fallon also discussed his recent visit to TD Garden, where he met members of the Bruins: “They’re big dudes, especially compared to me. We got a photo and I go, ‘Yeah, I'd love to get a photo with the team.’ I forgot we just had done superlatives about the Boston Bruins. I just had made fun of all these dudes.
