BCS Presidential Oversight Committee To Hear Consensus Playoff Plan

The BCS Presidential Oversight Committee today in DC will hear the BCS commissioners' "consensus plan for a playoff starting with the 2014 season." Under the header "Keep The Committee Small," the OKLAHOMAN's Berry Tramel writes the key to the playoff selection committee is to have "a limited number of decision-makers. No more than nine. Six or seven would be optimal."

Laugh Track....Keeping Up With Ms. Jones

U.S. hurdler Lolo Jones appeared on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” last night, and NBC’s Jay Leno said, “Every Olympian has an amazing story, but few have had one like my next guest.” Leno said to Jones, “You started these (U.S. Olympic) trials poorly, right?” Jones said jokingly, “I know that there’s a lot of people who gamble on track and field so I totally wanted to make them sweat a little bit. Once I’m on the team, they’re like, ‘Yes.’” Leno said, “When the whole world is kind of collapsing around you like that, who do you call?” Jones: “I have my pastor on speed dial one, I had my sports psychologist on speed dial two, my mom on speed dial three and the ex-boyfriend on speed dial four. Just to get mad, like, ‘I hate you! Okay, I’m ready to go run!’” Leno aired footage from the Beijing Games where Jones stumbled going over a hurdle and lost the Gold Medal. Leno: “I know you don’t like to watch this footage.” Jones replied, “So you have my blindfold ready, right?” Leno: “I think it’s really inspirational.” Jones said, “Yeah, everybody likes to watch a car accident” (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 6/25).

SI’s Frank Deford appeared on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” last night to promote his new book, “Over Time: My Life as a Sportswriter.” The first thing Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert said to Deford was, “I have to compliment you on being a dapper gentleman. Not everyone shows the respect to come on my show with the crisp knot (in his tie) and the kerchief.” Deford: “Sportswriters are usually looked upon as slovenly and I like to go against that.” With Deford having a long career in sports, Colbert asked, “How has sportswriting changed over your career because when you started the Super Bowl was just leather helmets and guys with truncheons, right?” Deford: “The great thing about sportswriting is it’s drama and it’s glamour and there’s wins and losses. As a matter of fact, if you can’t write sports you really ought to get out of the business because it gives you everything” (“The Colbert Report,” Comedy Central, 6/26).

NBA Draft prospect Anthony Davis appeared on NBC’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” last night, and host Jimmy Fallon said Davis was a “young man whose life is going to change in a big way at this Thursday’s NBA Draft.” Fallon asked, “Do you know how excited your face is going to be when you get drafted?” Davis: “I’m not sure yet. I’m still working on it.” Fallon said Davis’ eyebrows "were a topic this year” and added, “I love it. You rock the unibrow proudly. We’re all on Team Unibrow.” Davis said his eyebrows “have a couple” Twitter accounts as well as Facebook pages (“Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” NBC, 6/25).
