MLB, Reds Placing Mustache Statues In Cincinnati Before All-Star Game

MLB and the Reds on Friday announced that 20 Cincinnati baseball-inspired statues will be placed around the city ahead of the July 14 All-Star Game. Each statue is an oversized mustache that resembles the handlebar style sported by Reds mascot Mr. Redlegs. They measure 8 feet wide, 2.5 feet high and weigh about 850 pounds. A retail component consists of replica statues made by Forever Collectibles, available at MLB.com/shop and the Reds Team Shop at Great American Ball Park starting next week (MLB).

New TV Deal Helps ACC Revenue Increase By 30% To $302M In '13-14

The ACC reported $302.3M in revenue for '13-14, placing the conference fourth behind the Pac-12, Big Ten and SEC. Revenue was up 30% for the year after increasing by 4% from '11-12 to '12-13. TV revenue increased 35% to $197.2M "through a new deal with ESPN." ACC Commissioner John Swofford's compensation was $2.1M, "roughly the same amount as a year earlier." A tax return shows the league paid $10.9M to its schools in "reimbursement for participating in conference championships" (CBSSPORTS.com, 6/12).

Scott Dixon's IndyCar Ride Features "Jurassic World" Paint Scheme

Chip Ganassi Racing Teams' No. 9 Verizon IndyCar Series Chevy driven by Scott Dixon will sport a special "Jurassic World" paint scheme for this weekend's Honda Indy Toronto. The car debuted in testing Friday, the same day the new Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment film was released. Dixon's car normally carries primary sponsorship from Target, which earlier this year opted to liquidate its 133 stores in Canada (THE DAILY).

Stars Hire Veteran Broadcaster Dave Strader For Play-By-Play

The Stars on Friday announced the hiring of veteran play-by-play announcer Dave Strader for TV and radio game broadcasts. Strader, who is 60 years old, most recently handled play-by-play for NBCSN's regular-season and postseason NHL coverage since the '11-12 season. Strader will partner in the booth with Daryl Reaugh, who is set to serve in his 20th season as Stars color analyst (Stars).

MGT Capital Investments Selling Off Its Daily Fantasy Assets

MT Capital Investments has signed an asset purchase agreement to sell its daily fantasy sports assets, including DraftDay, together with the MGT Sports business-to-business network. The transaction will provide MGT with $7M in total consideration, including $4M cash. MGT will retain an equity interest in the new venture, with an initial valuation of up to $3M (MGT Capital Investments).

American Pharoah To Be Feted At Churchill Downs This Weekend

The public "will get another look" at Triple Crown winner American Pharoah Saturday night when the horse is honored at Churchill Downs. His connections "will receive trophies for last month's victory" in the Kentucky Derby. NBCSN will telecast the Churchill card live from 8:00-10:00pm ET. American Pharoah will be in Louisville through June 18 "before returning to Southern California" (BLOODHORSE.com, 6/12).

Meanwhile, the signs outside of trainer Bob Baffert's barn at Churchill "have been updated" to denote the Triple Crown win and Baffert's "fourth Derby victory" (COURIER-JOURNAL.com, 6/12).

The Atlantic Sun Conference on Friday announced that New Jersey Institute of Technology will join the conference, effective July 1, in 14 sports. This brings A-Sun membership to eight schools (Atlantic Sun).

Ford will return to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in '16 with its Ford GT car. The two Ford teams will be operated by Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (Ford).

The NASL N.Y. Cosmos announced that Peak Performance has renewed its partnership as the team’s official physical therapy provider (Cosmos).
