Blatter Wins Re-Election As FIFA President After Ali Withdraws

Sepp Blatter on Friday won re-election to a fifth term as FIFA President when his "only competition, Prince Ali bin al-Hussain, withdrew from consideration after the first ballot." The election was "forced to a second vote after Blatter failed to gain a two-thirds majority in the initial phase." The first ballot had 133 votes going to Blatter, 73 to Prince Ali and "three being invalid." Blatter in his acceptance speech said, "I like you, I like my job. I am not perfect, nobody is perfect, but we will do a good job together I am sure. ... It's been a wonderful journey in terms of knowing you, working with you" (USATODAY.com, 5/29).

Orlando City SC's Stadium Will Be Privately Funded In Full

By Ian Thomas

Orlando City SC announced Friday that it will be privately funding the entirety of its new downtown Orlando stadium, as well as increasing the expected capacity. This comes after stadium construction was set back following a delay in $30M of funding from the Florida Legislature that would have helped pay for the $115M, 19,500-seat facility. Now, the team will purchase land from the city to build a 25,000-28,000-seat stadium that it will wholly own and operate. The venue, expected to be the second largest soccer-specific stadium in MLS, is scheduled to be completed in the summer of '16.

Sources: SEC To Distribute $435M In Revenues To Member Schools

Sources said that the SEC will distribute $435M from an NCAA-record $455M in revenues among its 14 institutions. Each member school will receive $31.07M, up from last year's payout of $20.9M per school. The SEC's $455M in total revenue is "based on the revenue-sharing plan for the 2014-15 fiscal year, which ends Aug. 1." However, $20M was "retained by institutions that participated in bowl games last season" (ESPN.com, 5/29).
