Senators Owner Eugene Melnyk In "Urgent Need" For Liver Donor

The Senators today issued a statement on team Owner Eugene Melnyk, who has been hospitalized the past three weeks due to the onset of liver-related complications. Doctors have determined that Melnyk is in urgent need of a liver transplant and efforts so far have yet to yield a suitable donor. The statement reads in part, “The Senators organization and the Melnyk family are looking for any members of the public who may be interested in being a live liver donor” (Senators).

NFLPA Files Tom Brady Appeal, Seeks Hearing Before Arbitrator

The NFLPA this afternoon filed an appeal of the four-game suspension of Patriots QB Tom Brady handed down by NFL Exec VP/Football Operations Troy Vincent. The union in a statement said, “Given the NFL’s history of inconsistency and arbitrary decisions in disciplinary matters, it is only fair that a neutral arbitrator hear this appeal” (NFLPA).

NFL Network’s Albert Breer said Brady’s representatives "wanted to have something done by about noon." Breer: "Certainly there was a lot for them to sort through as far as the Patriots' rebuttal to the Wells Report and some stuff they have to consider in there so it backed them up a few hours” (NFL Network, 5/14).

MLS Reaches Deal For Letv Sports To Live Stream Games In China

MLS today announced that it has signed a partnership with Chinese digital sports broadcast platform Letv to provide live coverage of league matches in mainland China. The platform will stream live at least two MLS regular-season matches each week on its online services, as well as the MLS All-Star Game, all MLS Cup Playoffs games and MLS Cup. It will also show highlights, player features and other MLS-related content on its digital platforms. MLS’ media rights agent IMG, which has negotiated deals for the league in the U.K., Europe, Brazil and the Middle East and North Africa, brokered the deal.

U.S. Olympic Museum Unveils Preliminary Architecture Designs

The U.S. Olympic Museum today unveiled preliminary architecture and exhibit renderings for the Colorado Springs facility slated to open prior to the ’18 PyeongChang Games. Museum officials also finalized a land gift agreement with Nor’wood Development Group, which donated 1.7 acres for the museum site. With the land agreement in place, officials will continue with their $80M fundraising campaign, of which $42M has been raised to date (U.S. Olympic Museum).

NBCSN Scores Its Highest Overnight Of Playoffs With Rangers-Caps

The Rangers’ 2-1 OT win over the Capitals in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series drew NBCSN a 2.3 overnight rating, the best mark on the net so far for the ’15 postseason. Both the N.Y. and DC markets drew their highest ratings ever for an NHL game on NBCSN, 9.3 and 7.9, respectively. The Rangers will host the Lightning in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday afternoon on NBC prior to the running of the Preakness Stakes (THE DAILY).

Giancarlo Stanton, Jermaine Jones Appear In Athletic Yoga Series

Fitness company Gaiam today announced the release of two yoga programs as part of their Athletic Yoga series. Marlins RF Giancarlo Stanton takes part in “Yoga For Power,” while Revolution and USMNT MF Jermaine Jones appears in the “Yoga For Conditioning.” Gaiam earlier this year released a “Yoga For Flexibilty” starring Cavaliers F Kevin Love and “Yoga For Strength” featuring former NFLer Eddie George (Gaiam).

Canada Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder today announced that a planned $2.1B bridge “connecting Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, will be named” after Hockey HOFer Gordie Howe. The Gordie Howe Int’l Bridge is “expected to be operational” in ’20 (AP, 5/14).

The Braves have spent about $131M on their new ballpark in Cobb County, according to Liberty Media filings to the SEC. The company's report puts "the cost of the stadium" at $672M and the surrounding mixed-use development at more than $450M (AJC.com, 5/14).

One World Sports today announced that it will produce and televise the June 2 match between NASL N.Y. Cosmos and the Cuba men's national team (One World Sports).

The MLB Giants have become a founding partner of the Tenderloin Health Improvement Partnership, which aims to improve the quality of life in S.F.'s Tenderloin neighborhood (Saint Francis Foundation).
