Companies to watch: 20 companies helping venues move forward with technology

Alvarado: Maker of touchless turnstiles, entry pedestals, suite scanners and handheld validation terminals.

 

Appetize: Point-of-sale (POS) and management platform at more than half the North American big-league venues, including MetLife Stadium, Yankee Stadium and Madison Square Garden.

Axess: The dominant POS player among North American ski resorts, with approximately three dozen in its portfolio.

Bypass: The POS platform was acquired by Fiserv in March and is used by more than 50 North American venues, including Fiserv Forum (Milwaukee), Citi Field (New York) and Clover Park, the Mets’ spring training park in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Clover: Another Fiserv offering, the POS is active in more than 25 major stadiums and arenas across the U.S., including Fiserv Forum, Citi Field and Clover Park.

Connect & Go: RFID payment company has worked with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the NBA and the PGA Tour.

FanFood: Cashless and contactless ordering app has dozens of venues on its roster, including the additions this summer of AutoZone Park (Memphis), BBVA Field (Birmingham) and University of North Texas athletic facilities.

FanThreeSixty: Mobile app provider at eight NASCAR tracks and more than a dozen pro soccer venues.

Fortress: Contactless RFID and mobile ticketing provider for nearly two dozen North American major league teams and dozens of international soccer clubs.

Koala: Brooklyn-based app developer handles mobile ordering at the Chase Center.

Micros: One of the most-used POS systems in the world, the sports clients for the Oracle-owned technology include Indian Wells, Toyota Stadium and Marlins Park.

NCR: POS system helped Mercedes-Benz Stadium become the biggest cashless venue in the world.

Skidata: Cashless payment platform at approximately 20 sports venues worldwide, including the homes of LAFC and the Philadelphia Union.

Square: Making big moves into sports, its clients include SoFi Stadium, Chase Center and Nationals Park.

Tapin2: In-seat delivery, express pickup and self-service kiosks of concessions and merchandise for more than 20 major league teams and athletic facilities at Ohio State and Wisconsin.

Tappit: RFID cashless payment system provider counts Premier League team Manchester City and F1’s Australian Grand Prix as clients.

Thornton Tomasetti: Known in sports circles as an engineering firm, it has developed a Bluetooth Low Energy mobile ticketing and contact tracing app.

VenueNext: Its app replaced Micros’ POS at Amway Center last month; Levi’s Stadium, Churchill Downs, U.S. Bank Stadium and University of Florida athletics are among its clients.

Venuetize: App developer that helped Tropicana Field become the first cash-free ballpark and is in the new Globe Life Field; also partnered with Delaware North on TD Garden’s The Hub on Causeway.

YinzCam: Still sports’ biggest mobile app provider, although competitors are nibbling away at its market share; client list includes 23 NFL teams, 20 NBA teams, eight WNBA teams, six MLS teams, three NHL teams, five Power Five athletic programs and dozens of international venues.
