MLB, HBO partner for ‘Game of Thrones’ bobbleheads

foco

Spring training has begun, but winter is coming.

HBO is scheduled to announce today that it has partnered with Major League Baseball and all 30 clubs to release team-branded “Game of Thrones”-themed bobbleheads in conjunction with the April 14 premiere of the show’s final season. Every team will offer a “Night King” and an “Ice Dragon” bobble. The 25 teams that have a mascot will release an additional figure with that character sitting on the “Iron Throne,” wielding a bat and displaying their team banner.

Although a dozen MLB clubs have held a “Game of Thrones” bobblehead game-day giveaway over the past two seasons, according to Sports Business Journal research, these are the first such “GoT” bobbles that HBO has licensed for retail sale.

Fans can begin ordering the items this week, for April delivery, via the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s online store. The “Night King” bobbleheads are $45 each and the “Ice Dragon” and “Iron Throne” bobbleheads are $60 each. For teams with two bobbleheads, the pair is being sold for $95; teams with three have them packaged for $150.

The bobbleheads are being manufactured by FOCO, which also is a licensee of the NFL, NBA, NHL, NASCAR, MLS and more than 100 colleges and universities as well as entertainment properties such as Disney, Warner Bros./DC Comics, Nickelodeon and Sanrio.

The Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum opened to the public Feb. 1.
