Flashback: Taste of the NFL

Program from Super Bowl XXVIII in 1994taste of the nfl

Every year since 1992, a player from each NFL team joins a chef from the club’s city on the eve of the Super Bowl at Taste of the NFL to raise awareness and money to help end childhood hunger in the United States.

Because this is Atlanta’s third Super Bowl, it is also the third time the city gets to Party With a Purpose.

In 1994, the event was held downtown at the Swissotel, and chef Paul Albrecht from Pano’s and Paul’s prepared a yellow fin tuna with Georgia grits.

Program from Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000taste of the nfl

In 2000, hungry fans headed an hour northeast, to the Gwinnett County Convention Center in Duluth, Ga. The hometown team was represented by Nava’s chef Kevin Rathbun, who served local duck with tasso gumbo.

Although both restaurants have since closed, Rathbun is back this year showcasing his namesake establishment’s roasted New York strip with truffled parsnips and smoked garlic jus.

This weekend’s event will be held at Cobb Galleria, 11 miles northwest of downtown, next to the Atlanta Braves’ SunTrust Park.

Admission to the 2019 event is $700 per ticket or $10,000 for a table of 10.
