WCSN takes leap, leaves MLBAM

WCSN and JumpTV this week are expected to announce a new partnership that will see JumpTV develop and host a redesigned Web site for the Olympic and lifestyle digital sports network.

The deal means WCSN will leave MLB Advanced Media, which has served as the operational backbone of the site since 2005. MLBAM was an equity holder in WCSN.

“Baseball’s been a great partner with us up until now and will continue to be a partner with us on a number of opportunities,” said WCSN Chief Executive Officer Claude Ruibal. “But … with more demand for sophistication on the Web site — not that BAM doesn’t have sophistication — we want to tailor it in a way that works for us and tailor it in a way that works for our consumers.”

Terms of the multiyear agreement were not available, but both parties will share in e-commerce, subscription and service provider revenue. They will jointly handle ad sales and planning, as well, said WCSN President and COO Carlos Silva.
