AVP’s Brooklyn Open inks realty firm as presenting sponsor

Real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield has bought a presenting sponsorship to the AVP’s Brooklyn Open tournament, which debuts this August adjacent to Coney Island’s legendary boardwalk.

The three-year, mid-six-figure deal gets the firm rotational signage in the main court and beach-level signage on other courts, along with tickets and hospitality. NBC Sports will televise the finals of the event, which runs Aug. 17-20, and Cushman & Wakefield will buy media on NBC’s broadcasts in the second and third year of the deal.

The Brooklyn tournament will serve as an early example as the AVP converts to a business model where more local promoters run tournaments, instead of the league itself. Ratner Cos., which also owns the New Jersey Nets, is promoting the event as a precursor to the team’s eventual move to Brooklyn.

“Our goal is 240 events a year at the arena we’re building, so we need to build relationships there and we need to show government and business in Brooklyn we’re for real,” said Chris Brahe, vice president of corporate sales for the Nets, who did the Cushman & Wakefield deal for Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, another Ratner division.

Cushman & Wakefield is also a Nets corporate sponsor.
