Atlético Madrid coach DIEGO SIMEONE signed a new contract at the club until '22. Simeone's previous deal ran until June 30, 2020 (ESPN.com, 2/14). ... Asian MMA promotion Legend FC named AUDIE ATTAR a founding board member. Legend FC also named Berjaya Assets a strategic investor (Legend FC). ... JUAN CARLOS OSORIO is no longer head coach of Paraguay after he and the Paraguay FA (APF) announced they would "part ways by mutual consent." Osorio made the announcement alongside APF President ROBERT HARRISON at a joint news conference, "citing family issues as the reason for leaving his post" (ESPN.com, 2/14). ... Ligue 1 side Monaco VP VADIM VASILYEV resigned. After poor on-pitch results and “substantial financial losses” this season, Vasilyev has "decided to not see out the season" (L’ÉQUIPE, 2/14).

Atlético Madrid announced on Thursday that it "severed ties" with MANUEL BRIÑAS, the founder of the club's football school. Earlier this week, Briñas, 88, "admitted to sexually abusing a minor" in the '70s (EL MUNDO, 2/14). ... Former British No. 1 LAURA ROBSON said that she felt "better than expected" after fearing she "would be terrible" in her comeback tournament following eight months out. The 25-year-old, who had hip surgery last June, lost to Liechtenstein's KATHINKA VON DEICHMANN in the ITF W60 (BBC, 2/13). ... New Zealand women's national cricket team coach HAIDEE TIFFEN "will not be with the side when it takes on Australia in a three-match series next month." Tiffen requested a leave of absence in the wake of a NZ Cricket World T20 campaign review which "recommended all coaching and support staff roles be advertised at the completion of their contract periods." NZ Cricket appointed High Performance Coach BOB CARTER "to act as the interim coach in her absence" (NZ HERALD, 2/14). ... ERIC HARRISON, the coach credited with producing ManU's "famous Class of 92 youth side," died at the age of 81. News of his death was confirmed on Thursday by the club where Harrison spent 17 years as a youth team coach after moving from Everton in '81 (London GUARDIAN, 2/14).

UNDER THE MICROSCOPE: Real Madrid forward GARETH BALE could be sanctioned for his goal celebration in last week’s 3-1 win in the league at Atlético Madrid. La Liga said in a statement that it would refer the incident to the Spanish Football Federation's (RFEF) competition committee (REUTERS, 2/14).
