Names In The News: Spain's María José Rienda Accused Of Tax Evasion

Spanish Secretary of State for Sports MARÍA JOSÉ RIENDA reportedly paid a total of €1.4M in taxes on image rights through an organization created in '04. El Mundo reported Rienda did this from '04-11, while she was a professional skier, to avoid costs associated with Spain's personal income tax (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 11/14). ... KEVIN NOLAN "could be set for a shock return" to League Two side Notts County. The club is looking for its third manager of the season following the dismissal of HARRY KEWELL on Tuesday. Nolan, 36, was sacked by the club in August and is "among those being considered for the role" (London DAILY MAIL, 11/14). ... Western Australia will be "quick to welcome" former test batsman CAMERON BANCROFT "back to the fold" once his ball-tampering ban expires in December, the state team's coach, ADAM VOGES, said (REUTERS, 11/13). ... Former Football Fern WENDI HENDERSON rejoined the team as an assistant, working under TOM SERMANNI, who was unveiled as the team's new coach earlier this month. Henderson is believed to be the first woman involved in such a role with the Ferns since '04, when she briefly worked with ALI GRANT under Technical Dir PAUL SMALLEY (STUFF, 11/14). ... Guatemala's CHRISTOPHER DÍAZ-FIGUEROA was banned from tennis for two years -- with a further 12 months suspended -- for match-fixing. The world No. 723 was found guilty of "contriving the outcome of a match" at an Int'l Tennis Federation event in Prague in Nov. '17 (BBC, 11/14). ... U.S. int'l and Borussia Dortmund forward CHRISTIAN PULISIC said that there is "no reason" why he would not move to the Premier League in the future. Pulisic has been "consistently linked" to a move to Liverpool, which submitted an £11M bid for him in '16. He said, "England, the Premier League, is a league where lots of kids dream of playing so there is no reason why maybe one day I won't play here" (London TELEGRAPH, 11/14). ... Former World No. 2 and 2015 WTA Finals champion AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA retired from tennis, aged 29. She wrote on Facebook, "Unfortunately, I am no longer able to train and play the way I used to, and recently my body can't live up to my expectations" (STADIUM ASTRO, 11/14).
