Event Notes: WTA Launching Tennis On The Thames To Celebrate Women

The Women’s Tennis Association is launching Tennis on the Thames on the eve of The Championships at Wimbledon -- a first-of-its-kind public celebration of women. Some of the biggest names in women’s tennis will gather on the South Bank of the River Thames on June 28 at London’s Oxo Tower and Bernie Spain Gardens. The one-day, outdoor festival will feature an interactive photography exhibition spotlighting each women's journey (WTA).

Eight Pakistan Super League matches are set to be played in Pakistan next year, according to the PCB Chair Najam Sethi. It was also confirmed that the UAE will "continue to be the main venue for the league," where the rest of it is scheduled. The idea of having the entire tournament in Pakistan was deemed logistically "not feasible" at this stage. Pakistan had concerns as its home season in the UAE "runs alongside various other leagues slotted in the UAE," which hurts the PCB's commercial rights (ESPN.com, 6/13).

Younger and newer cyclists are "being given an opportunity to take part" in RideLondon-Surrey 2018 with the launch of a new 19-mile event. The new ride -- which is open to people 12 years of age and older -- will start from Sandown Racecourse and take in the last section of the RideLondon-Surrey route. It is one of eight RideLondon-Surrey events from July 28-29 (BBC, 6/13).
