Professional Bull Riders Stages First Event In Sydney

Professional Bull Riders this past weekend held its second PBR Global Cup event overall and first in Australia, as Team Brazil edged out teams from Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Australia before 10,000 fans over two days at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. The Global Cup's first leg was at Rogers Place in Edmonton in November. Last weekend's leg was streamed on PBR's new RidePass OTT network and included a $750,000 prize purse. PBR has an Australia-specific series that was established in '07 and now features seven regional events and eight majors, but the Global Cup was established to generate the country-versus-country patriotism seen in the FIFA World Cup. The PBR has yet to announce the dates and venues for the next three legs of the Global Cup, but they will be somewhere in the U.S., Brazil and Mexico. PBR CEO Sean Gleason also announced at the end of this past weekend's event that the series will be back in Sydney next year for the Australian leg of the competition.
