FRANK KING, the "driving force" behind the Calgary 1988 Winter Olympics, died, aged 81 of a sudden heart attack after a training session at the Glencoe Club. A lifetime runner, he was "preparing for a world seniors track-and-field event in Utah this summer" (CALGARY HERALD, 5/10). ... The McLaren Formula 1 car driven to victory by AYRTON SENNA at the 1993 Monaco Grand Prix was purchased by former F1 CEO BERNIE ECCLESTONE. The McLaren MP4/8-6 was sold at the Bonhams auction in Monaco for €4.19M ($5M). Senna claimed his sixth race win in Monaco with the car and "to this day, it remains largely untouched" (CAR SCOOPS, 5/13). ... TESSA JOWELL, a former British government minister who was "instrumental" in bringing the Olympic Games to London in '12, died, aged 70, after a brain hemorrhage. Jowell was diagnosed with brain cancer in May '17 (REUTERS, 5/13). ... Former South Korean national short track coach CHO JAE-BEOM "landed a job in China." Cho is back to coaching "just four months after receiving a lifetime ban from the Korea Skating Union" for hitting short track speed skater SHIM SUK-HEE during practice (YONHAP, 5/12). ... Premier League side West Ham Vice-Chair KARREN BRADY is "facing pressure to drop her weekly column" with The Sun after writing that "malcontents and keyboard warriors" have undermined the club's efforts to make improvements to the London Stadium. It is understood that Brady has been "repeatedly urged from within the club to end her association with the newspaper, amid weariness at the problems that some consider certain columns to have caused West Ham" (London GUARDIAN, 5/13).
