The NBA, FIBA and the Basketball Federation of India announced Basketball Without Borders Asia will be held from May 30-June 2 at the NBA Academy India in Delhi National Capital Region, marking the second time that the program will be held in India. The NBA and BFI also announced the NBA Academy India will host a basketball development camp for top female prospects from throughout India as part of the NBA Academies Women's Program from May 27-29 (NBA).
Cricket Ireland faces a £66,000 ($89,400) bill after the opening day of the first test match against Pakistan at Malahide on Friday was "abandoned without a ball bowled." The 11th and newest test nation became the first to "suffer a washout" on its opening day of five-day cricket when play was called off at 3pm. Half an hour later, "the skies cleared and Malahide was bathed in sunshine." Cricket Ireland does not have a fully comprehensive weather insurance policy because of the cost and "will refund in full all the 5,100 supporters who had bought tickets" (LONDON TIMES, 5/12).
The Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) has held meetings with Spain football int'l Gerard Piqué "about holding the planned revamped Davis Cup in France or Madrid next year," the organization's CEO, Miguel Díaz, said on Friday. Díaz said, "We are looking at a formula whereby the quarterfinals, semifinals and final will be held in Madrid or in France so it doesn't have to go to Asia. We've had a couple of meetings with Gerard Piqué and we will have one more but we still need data" (REUTERS, 5/11).
Square Enix partnered with esports event organizer ESL to launch a new online open tournament series for its fighting game, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. The series will be part of Go4, ESL's community tournament series. Teams will "compete in weekly cups in order to qualify for a monthly finals." ESL will support separate series for North America and Europe (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 5/10).
