MLS-Liga MX Partnership Includes New Campeones Cup Event

Major League Soccer and Liga MX signed a long-term partnership aiming to elevate football in North America. At the center of the deal is a new annual event that will see the champions of each league face off in what is being called the Campeones Cup. Toronto FC, last year’s MLS Cup winner, will host the '18 edition of the event on Sept. 19 at BMO Field, facing off against the Liga MX team that wins the annual Campeon de Campeones final, to be played in July.

The partnership will look to launch additional competitions in the future, including at future MLS All-Star Games, where the best players from each league will face each other, rather than MLS All-Stars facing European clubs. The partnership also will see the two leagues share best business practices and collaborate around social responsibility efforts.
