Names In The News

Former Swedish women's int'l footballer GUNILLA AXEN claimed Sunday that she was sexually harassed by three well-known male national team players "which included being sent a series of lewd photographs." Axen, who was a European champion in '84, said that the three men were "very well known, respected and successful" when the alleged incidents occurred in the first decade of the century. Axen "refused to name the players involved" (AFP, 10/23). ... Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) President DAVID LAPPARTIENT is considering limiting "the use of earpieces in the professional cycling peloton." Earpieces have "long been a topic of debate in cycling," with some supporting the use of technology while others believe that races "would get more exciting when riders get less information from their team leaders" (CYCLING PUB, 10/23).
