Event Notes: Czech Republic MotoGP Round Again In Debt

Despite "boasting the biggest crowd" of the '14 season, the Czech Republic MotoGP round is "again in doubt." A message on the Brno circuit website confirmed, "With an immediate effect, Automotodrom Brno suspends the sale of tickets for the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic 2015 due to insufficient funding for the event." That is despite a joint statement issued during last year's Czech event -- which had also been in jeopardy due to funding fears -- in which Dorna, the local government and Brno circuit "spoke confidently" of securing the 2015 round (CRASH, 6/23). ... Unions representing Dutch police said that they will "temporarily block the route of the Tour de France cycling race on July 5 to draw attention to their pay dispute with the Dutch government." The Tour de France is starting in the Dutch university town of Utrecht on July 4 and will conclude as always in Paris after 21 days and 3,360km. The ACP union said that police will "block the convoy of road vehicles that runs ahead of the main body of racers" on the second day of the race as it crosses the 800m-long Erasmus Bridge across the Maas River in Rotterdam (REUTERS, 6/24).
