Four Athletic Clubs In São Paulo Receive $2M In Federal Funding

Four of São Paulo's athletic clubs will share federal funding totaling R$6M ($2M) from a federal lottery that is now accessible. Brazilian Club Federation (CBC) President Jair Pereira and Brazilian Sports Minister George Hilton officially released the transfer of R$6M on Tuesday to clubs Paineiras do Morumby, Esperia, Athlético Paulistano and Associação Desportiva Classista da Mercedes-Benz. The funding is part of the federal Nova Lei Pelé, a law that funds athletic clubs aimed at training national and Olympic athletes, and is part of an agreement signed in December that decided to fund 16 clubs that had their projects selected. Hilton: "I want to applaud and congratulate the four clubs, which today will receive R$6 million, for presenting consistent projects to shape Olympic athletes, to shape the future generations of Olympic athletes." Pareira added that the Sports Ministry's capability to recognize the importance of clubs is fundamental. Of the 16 clubs approved to receive funding, 10 clubs' payments, totaling R$17.3M ($5.8M), are still pending (Ministério do Esporte).
