Event Notes: Milan's San Siro To Host Final Of 2016 Champions League

The final of the Champions League in '16 "will be played at the new and renovated San Siro stadium" in Milan, which hosted the Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Valencia in '01. Since then, "it has not hosted another final." Basel, Switzerland's St. Jakob-Park will host the Europa League final the same year and the 2016 UEFA Supercup will be held in Norway (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 8/28). ... Bilbao, Spain Mayor Ibon Areso "will send a written request" to Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) President Angel María Villar and Spanish Superior Sports Council (CSD) President Miguel Cardenal asking for his city's renovated San Mamés stadium to host the final of this year's Copa del Rey (EP, 8/28). ... A threat from Granada hospitality workers "has been fulfilled, and 48 hours from the start" of the FIBA World Cup, the "sector will go on strike to demand a series of improvements to a new labor framework." This news "will no doubt affect the nearly 15,000 visitors expected in the city during the tournament." In addition to fans of the host nation, which is in Granada's Group A, the city will welcome supporters of Brazil, Serbia, France, Egypt and Iran, "primarily from the first three" (LIBERTAD DIGITAL, 8/28).
