Munich's Olympic Park "will, together with Red Bull, put on its own action sports event including BMX, motocross and skateboarding after ESPN announced the X Games will not return to the park," according to Julian Galinski of ABENDZEITUNG MÜNCHEN. The news that the X Games "will not return to Munich was a hard blow to the Olympiapark GmbH, which is the company operating the park." The inaugural event during the summer attracted 120,000 spectators. When ESPN announced the cancelation of X Games Munich in October, Olympiapark Communications Head Arno Hartung said, "We can't simply come up with an alternative." However, it now "has become clear they can." The Olympiapark will put on a big action sports event in '14. This time, it will be in cooperation with Red Bull instead of ESPN. Hartung said, "Either on July 12-13 or July 18-19. We will release a schedule in January." The decision to partner with Red Bull "was an easy one for the park as its options were either with Red Bull or not at all." Hartung: "You need strong economic partners." In addition to Red Bull's financial support, the Olympic Park "receives a huge marketing machine and several top athletes, which are part of Red Bull's network." The new event "is expected to become part of a series and not just a one-off thing." Hartung said that "Red Bull has come to stay" (ABENDZEITUNG MÜNCHEN, 12/12).

Germany "is starting a new attempt to host golf's Ryder Cup tournament," according to SPORT1. Ryder Cup Germany Exec Chair Norbert Löhlein said, "We won't make the same mistakes as last time" (SPORT1, 12/12).

Left-wing political party EH Bildu, which is based in the Basque Country region of Spain, "has said that it is opposed to Bilbao possibly serving as a host site for Euro 2020." EH Bildu Secretary General Pello Urizar said, "We do not have anything to do with the Spanish national team." Urizar added that "national sports teams have a very important political component and are tools to obscure the national interests of some and strengthen those of others" (LIBERTAD DIGITAL, 12/14). ... Wales could be a "surprise bidder for the 2026 World Cup in partnership with England and/or other British federations." Cardiff has "already been selected" to host next year's UEFA Super Cup, only the second time it has not been staged in Monaco. Wales First Minister Carwyn Jones said that his country was "keen to use the opportunity to further its credentials" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 12/13). ... The Dubai Sports Council "will be backing the annual 'Colour Run' to be held at the Dubai Autodrome on Saturday." The event will be organized with "sponsorship from Activelife Insurance Company." The inaugural edition of the event was "joined by millions of people around the world after it was held at the same time in more than 100 cities" (GULF NEWS, 12/15). ... The Int'l Motorcycling Federation "has confirmed the calendar for the 2014 MotoGP season, with a race in South America for the first time in a decade" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 12/16). ... China "will host a record 10 WTA events in the coming season as the global leader in women's professional tennis on Thursday announced the 2015 calendar as well as changes to the 2014 calendar." The WTA's long-term strategy of growing women's tennis in Asia "is built around an expansive footprint in China and the region, as well as Singapore hosting the year-end WTA Championships for a record five years between 2014 and 2018" (XINHUA, 12/13). ...
