First Round DFB Pokal Games Broadcasts Result In Top Ratings For ARD, Sky

German public broadcaster ARD "received high ratings for its summary of Sunday's first round DFB Pokal (German Cup) matches in its Sportschau program," according to David Grzeschik of QUOTENMETER. The show, which started at 5:30pm local time, attracted an average of 2.58 million viewers. The number translated into a market share of 15.9%. In the target demographic 14-49, a total of 710,000 viewers tuned in, which equaled "an above average share of 11.4%." Following the DFB Pokal highlights, ARD covered the final day of the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona. The swimming event was watched by 2.58 million viewers and had a 12.8% market share (QUOTENMETER, 8/5).

SKY HIGH:
QUOTENMETER's Sidney Schering reported German pay-TV channel Sky recorded top ratings with its live broadcast of the first round DFB Pokal game between Sandhausen and Nuremberg. The game attracted 220,000 viewers during regulation, which translated into a market share of 0.9%. In the target demographic, the game, which started at 8:25pm, was watched by 90,000 viewers and had a 0.9% share. During extra time, the viewership increased to 280,000 viewers and 130,000 viewers in the target demographic. The numbers equaled a market share of 1.3% and 1.9%, respectively. When the game entered a penalty shootout at 11pm, the matchup attracted even more viewers. A total of 370,000 viewers tuned in, which resulted in a 2% market share. In the target demographic, Sandhausen's 4-3 win after penalties attracted 230,000 viewers and had a 3% share (QUOTENMETER, 8/5).
