Singapore Telecom M1's MiBox Makes Push To Get Approval To Carry EPL Matches

Singapore telecom M1's MiBox "is making a play for the English Premier League," according to Joyce Hooi of the BUSINESS TIMES. While "the fledgling Internet TV service is currently not eligible to cross-carry the EPL matches, it is intent on gaining the regulatory approval to do so" -- but it needs at least 10,000 subscribers. A MiBox spokesperson said that so serious is the country's smallest telecom about contending in the EPL stakes that it has "approached SingTel to better understand the technical requirements to cross-carry their exclusive content including the EPL on our platform." MiBox's eligibility "hinges on getting at least 10,000 subscribers, to qualify as a receiver of cross-carriage content." This "will be a significant requirement, considering how MiBox, launched last week, is barely a week old." StarHub "is already slated to cross-carry SingTel's exclusively acquired EPL content over the next three years, as mandated by the cross-carriage rule" (BUSINESS TIMES, 8/1).
