Spanish Government Looking For Broadcaster To Show Spain's World Cup Qualifying Match

The Spanish government is "negotiating with private broadcasters" so that the World Cup qualifying match between Spain and Belarus can be televised in the country, according to Joaquín Maroto of AS. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) believes that "in the end a deal will be reached." The initial 3€M ($3.9M) asking price of rights holders Sportfive has dropped to €1.5M ($1.9M), but as of now "no Spanish broadcasters has considered the offer profitable." Broadcaster Mediaset, with the government's help, "is negotiating with Sportfive." If a deal is reached, the broadcaster will be able to show Friday's game in Minsk, Belarus live (AS, 10/10).
