Singapore's SingTel Wins EPL Rights, With StarHub Keen To Close Its Own Deal

Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. has secured the broadcast rights to all 380 Premier League matches each year for seasons '13-14 through '15-16 in Singapore. These rights were acquired on a non-exclusive basis. The matches will continue to be available online on miostadium.com and on mobile via SingTel's BPL application (Premier League). THE STRAITS TIMES reported that Singapore's cable-TV operator StarHub is "still interested in acquiring" Premier League broadcast rights in the country, but "only if the price is right." Since SingTel acquired the rights on a non-exclusive basis, StarHub is left "free to secure its own deal." Under Singapore's cross carriage laws that came into effect two years ago, "pay-TV companies must allow competitors to carry exclusive programming they acquire" (THE STRAITS TIMES, 10/10).
