President Of Polish Football Federation Under Heavy Fire
Polish Sports Minister Joanna Mucha has asked the President of the Football Federation, Grzegorz Lato, to step down from his post following Poland's early exit at Euro 2012, according to LE MONDE. Lato had said before the beginning of the tournament that if Poland did not advance he would resign. Mucha said, "I am holding the head of the PZPN to his word. But we will see how the situation develops. The most important issue is that the PZPN is badly managed." The Polish Federation has been "criticized for many years by politicians." Before Lato took over, two temporary commissioners had been named to run the federation, but Poland backed away after "protests from UEFA and FIFA" (LE MONDE, 6/18).
