First Full Week Of NFL Preseason Sees Handful Of Demonstrations

Chargers OT Russell Okung was among the players protesting during the national anthem this weekend at NFL preseason games, as he "stood with his fist raised" prior to Chargers-Cardinals last night. There were "no other overt protests, and it wasn't immediately clear whether any players remained in the locker room" before the game (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 8/12). Meanwhile, Broncos LB Brandon Marshall and WR Demaryius Thomas "left the field" before the anthem prior to yesterday's preseason game against the Vikings. They "came back out via the tunnel behind the Broncos' bench after the anthem" (DENVER POST, 8/12).

The entire Lions roster and coaching staff locked arms during the anthem before their game against the Raiders on Friday, a "sign of unity the team began last season" (DETROIT NEWS, 8/11). Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch "took a seat on the bench" prior to the anthem, but there were "no reports of other player protests" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 8/10). SI.com profiled Dolphins DE Robert Quinn and his decision to raise his fist during the anthem (SI.com, 8/11).
