NFL Pro Bowl: Should It Stay Or Should It Go?
With the NFL Pro Bowl tonight, ESPN.com examined the pros and cons of continuing the event. The game as "currently constituted is beyond repair." The selection process "is flawed" and there will "never be a long-term motivation to play hard as long as the risks far outweigh the rewards" (ESPN.com, 1/26). However, the game would be "salvageable" if the league comes to an agreement with Hawaii to "be the permanent host," as well as returns the game to "the end of the season again" (ESPN.com, 1/26).
The number of players missing the Pro Bowl has "increased since the NFL moved the game to the week before the Super Bowl." This year, 16 players are "out due to injury or other reasons," while 15 more are "on Super Bowl teams unable to play" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 1/26).
