Pandemic Brings Changes To College Hoops Tipoff Events

Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic officials have opted "not to allow fans" at the men’s and women’s college basketball tournaments scheduled for Nov. 25-30 in South Dakota. Sanford Health's Jeremy Cauwels, M.D., said, "The bubble atmosphere can keep the players and coaches safe, but the situation with COVID-19 in the community requires keeping people apart.” The men's event "has already had five of the eight original teams to be included back out for COVID-19 related reasons." The four women's teams include No. 1 South Carolina. All tickets "will be refunded" (Sioux Falls ARGUS LEADER, 11/24).

Meanwhile, there will be "no tickets sold and no fans allowed in the stands" at the K.C.-based HOF Classic this weekend at T-Mobile Center. The field for the men's hoops event still includes "three of its original teams -- South Carolina, TCU and Tulsa." The fourth was to be Northwestern, but they "pulled out and Liberty was added instead." Games "traditionally played before Thanksgiving are now set for this Saturday and Sunday" (K.C. STAR, 11/24).
